Trailer Trash: March 16 of 2012

The new releases of the past couple of weeks have been so pitiful I couldn't even be bothered to post about them. However, today's latest offering was one I could not ignore. Shall we?

21 Jump Street At first, I was super excited by a 21 Jump Street film. Then I saw the trailer for whatever THIS is. No thank you. Not even Nick "Ron Swanson" Offerman can amp me up to see this. Ice Cube as the Captain, really? Steven Williams should be pissed! Maybe if I'd seen Peter DeLuise in the trailers I'd be more excited. The hype machine is saying this is the best thing since sliced bread so I'll inevitably watch this, but you can bet it won't be until I have fast-forward and stop at my disposal.

Verdict:  Exercise the Right to Cinematic Celibacy.

Well, that's all we've got this weekend. Will Ferrell's Casa de Mi Padre got a limited release today, but who knows if it will ever see the light of day in my area. Same goes for Ed Helms' Jeff, Who Lives At Home. I hope you have access to either of those. I hate for anyone to settle for 21 Jump Street because there are no other options.

  1. Oh man, I am serious when I say that this was the funniest movie EVER! I'm trying not to repeat myself cause I said the same thing on Rachel's blog, but fuck it! I LOVED THIS MOVIE!! It really is super funny!

  2. I just think we are so starved for a good comedy that anything mildly humorous gets lavished in praise. If you "must" see it, then wait for it to hit Redbox. Until then, spend your money on something else.

  3. Thanks guys! But you two do realize that your completely different recommendations canceled each other out? :)

Looks like I'll have to defer final decision on 21JS to my movie-going buddy.

  4. I admit I'm intrigued - I saw Jason's raving and have heard similarly good things from a number of other trusted sources. Time and priority will be the major things going against it. I had the chance to see it last week but chose Jeff...Home instead, I'll be seeing The Hunger Games next, and will probably find myself more interested in seeing something else in my next theatrical trip after that. And then it will be gone.

LOL at your DeLuise line. I either thought or wrote something similar. Though having Ron Swanson onboard - even for a small role - helps me out a ton.

    1. It's hard to deny the Swanson.

I'm with you; I'm planning to see Hunger Games very, very soon and then it'll be Wrath of the Titans. Not sure why on that one; the first was just okay, but the sequel trailers are singing to me. By that time, who knows what other movies will overshadow 21JS.

  5. Yep, Jonah Hill is adding up the black marks in my book fast. First he takes down my beloved Adventures in Babysitting and if that wasn't enough he has gone after 21 Jump Street too!! I will eventually watch both but in no rush for either. I had heard Johnny Depp has a cameo in 21 but even that doesn't inspire me to see it sooner. But speaking of Johnny and remakes I am torn about Dark Shadows, but yes I will try to see in theaters :D

    1. I'm actually excited about Dark Shadows. I probably shouldn't be, but Depp looks like he's having fun and Eva Green is sexy when she's playing crazy.

Jonah's wearing me out too. He's in Neighborhood Watch this summer. I'm hoping that will be a positive mark and not another negative.
