Trailer Trash: The June 17th Quickie

This weekend will mark my official catch-up to the summer season. With X-Men: First Class out of the way, I can now see what all the hype surrounding Super 8 is about and then onto this weekend's offerings. According to IMDb we've got another new superhero and another kiddie flick, but are either worth watching?

Green Lantern If I were a lion, this would be the thorn irritating the piss out of me. For the few who don't know, I'm not keen on a GL movie; I'd much prefer an ongoing TV series to better explain the characters of the Lantern universe. Even so, I'm curious to see how Reynold's wields the Green Lantern's Light. The comic nerd in me is skeptical of his ring-generated Gatling gun in the trailer, but I'll wait to see it in context.

Verdict:  It's Friday, I Don't Want to be Alone.

Mr. Popper's Penguins  Funny how I mentioned Ms. Gugino when discussing last week's Judy Moody movie and here she is opposite Carrey and his flock. She's not the only reason I'm interested in this, Popper actually looks like silly fun. I'm surprised Disney hasn't tapped Carrey for a live adaptation of Goofy (forget I said that!). I won't run out to see this, but a hot day and cool penguins sounds like a nice combination.

Verdict:  It's Friday, I Don't Want to be Alone.

Not much else exciting on the new release front. There's a limited release of The Art of Getting By opening here, but not sure what to think of it. Any of stargazers have any insight into it?

  1. That's an inspired Goofy idea (that I shall now expel from my mind). ;)

What a shitastic weekend at the movies. This coming weekend doesn't sound all that much better.

  2. And now having seen Green Lantern, I can confirm the weekend was quite shitastic. This coming weekend looks like a chance for me to finally watch Midnight in Paris.
