Huh, Huh, You Said "Poll" - In Memoriam

Yesterday the sad news was announced that Patrick Swayze had passed away. My wife immediately reminded me that a recent article in Rolling Stone pointed out that his movie Road House aired 45 times last year on three networks. That's the great thing about movies; it's sad that our favorite actors are no longer around to make new entertainment, but we can always
revisit our fondest memories of them.

Patrick Swayze
1952 - 2009

That brings me to the crux of my new poll. I am an unflappable fan of Swayze in Road House, but never liked Point Break. He gave a command performance as Vida in To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar, and I love when he dipped into skeezy for Donnie Darko and Powder Blue. Watching Swayze duke it out with Tex Cobb in Uncommon Valor is also a great cinematic memory for me.

I want to know, as we reflect on the life and career of Patrick Swayze, what film holds the best memories for you?

  1. As of right now, I was the only person that voted for Road House, despite the multiple vote option. I must ask...

What the hell is wrong with you people?

    ;)

Speaking of wrong people - tsk tsk, Wayne. I heart Point Break. Top 5 action movie of the past 25 years, easy. Though he hadn't been all that culturally relevant for at least 5 years (Donnie Darko), I'm actually really sad about this. If anything makes me feel a little better (despite my inability to believe it), it's that he was 57. Much older than I thought. Weirder still that his father died at the same age (read that somewhere...).

  2. He was in Donnie Darko? Don't remember that.

He gave a surprisingly sweet and touching performance in To Wong Foo--before I saw it I thought he would be horrible cause he was so manly--he pulled it off, and I was quite surprised and happy for him.

  4. I need to watch Point Break again. I remember it being painful when I was young. Part of the reason why I dislike The Fast & the Furious is b/c it was just Point Break on wheels.

It is a shame. I had just seen him in Powder Blue last month and thought maybe he'd start making a comeback. You never know.

@IW: He was the motivational guy in DD.

Yeah, I don't remember why I wanted to watch To Wong Foo, but I walked away enjoying it. Swayze and Leguizamo were so convincing.

I'm thinking I'll have to pull Road House off the shelf this weekend for some throat-ripping good fun.
