Hey stargazers. Gotta make this one extremely quick and dirty because my ass is running hella late! IMDb says we have two major releases this week and here they is:
Captain America: The First Avenger This is my most anticipated superhero film of the summer! I expect this to be Batman Begins and/or Spider-Man level of huge. I'm worried being a period film may hurt the box office, but I'm telling you all this is the movie not to miss!
Verdict: Moist With Antici...Pation!
Friends with Benefits I could make all kinds of No Strings Attached jokes here, but they've all been done. I've got mad love for Mila, but not even her smiling face can overshadow a big-screen Timberlake mug. Besdies, if I wait on the DVD, I can truly enjoy Mila in the privacy of my own home.
Verdict: It's Friday, I Don't Want to be Alone.
That's all she wrote, folks! Have a great weekend and try to stay cool!

Those are some high expectations for Captain America - did it live up to 'em for ya?
ReplyDeleteI saw it Friday, and my answer would be "no." It's an enjoyable flick, to be sure, but I find it too by-the-numbers and bland to stand alongside the best comic book flicks. Not a whole heck of a lot of character exploration to be found here, and just not enough "cool" shit. Weaving was fantastic, but his character was too one-note (and I found the climactic battle to be a downer, too).
I was out of town for a family reunion and haven't seen Cap in action yet. I figured it wouldn't live up to my expectations b/c very little has this summer. The plan is to double up on Capn America & Cowboys/Aliens this weekend. Should make for a fun day.
ReplyDeleteAgreed with Dylan: those are some high expectations. CAPTAIN AMERICA anticipated to be in the same league of BATMAN BEGINS? Not quite there on the 'huge' factor, but a decent enough film.
ReplyDeleteI think you'll like it, though. I had no flippin' idea how they were gonna write/direct a CAPTAIN AMERICA movie and NOT make it come off as a Mega Cheesefest, but lo and behold, Johnston & Co. pulled it off. There's some genuine coolness and cleverness in the film. Anyway, when you get the chance to see it, hope you dig it!
Maybe Batman Begins is a bit unrealistic, but it should at least be up there with Iron Man. I expected CAP would being a Cheesefest until the trailers came out. I was surprised it actually might have some gravitas. Can't wait to see it this weekend.
ReplyDeleteCaptain America is one superhero film I am actually looking forward to. These posters look awesome!
